i believe you could be what i need to believe

You suppose you've always been somewhat of a bleeding heart.

When you went to collect your class from recess that day, the playground aide walked up to you with a somewhat strange look on her face. The children had found what looked to be a Pokémon, though it also could just be a strange, aura-infused rock. She didn't know who else to tell, and you agreed to go look at it.

It was a Pokémon, alright. And you don't know what possessed you to say you'd take care of it, but you did, and now the little thing was sitting in the middle of your living room. It was moving about curiously, and you watched it as it explored.

It would probably be pertinent to figure out what this thing even was. You'd never had a need for it so the GaiaDex app wasn't on your phone, but it downloaded quickly and when you opened it up, you snapped a photo of the little creature and waited for the app to figure out what this thing was.

Carbink, the Jewel Pokémon. Some say that deep beneath the surface of the world, a pack of Carbink live with their queen Diancie in a kingdom of jewels.

Diancie. The name makes your eyebrows raise as you glance up at the little Carbink that was still floating around the coffee table, making happy little jingling noises as it did so. This thing was related to Diancie? It seemed farfetched, but GaiaDex wouldn't have the wrong information.

There was only one other thing—not thing, person—that came to mind at the thought of Diancie. And as you sit at the table, chin resting upon your hand, you get an idea. There's always those adverts warning people Pokémon aren't a gift, they're a commitment but you know that the person you're thinking of wouldn't turn this down. He's got a knack for taking in Pokémon that need a home, after all, and...

It's almost like a Diancie, isn't it? You chuckle to yourself, shaking your head. Your Deceptive Delibird gift for that same person is sitting on the side table, in a gift bag with festive-colored tissue paper sticking out. Technically you're not going over the limit because the Carbink was free, right?

Getting up, you walk to the Carbink, squatting down beside it. "It seems like you're having quite a bit of fun here, darling, but how would you like to go somewhere with a bit more space for you to explore?"

The Pokémon practically dazzled, floating up and spinning in a little circle. You can't help but smile wider.

"Perfect. I just know you'll be very happy with your knight, princess."
